Imagine looking into the mirror and not knowing who you are. One of the most frightening experiences during an episode, is when I forget who I am, where I came from, or who my parents are. I will look in the mirror, and not recognize my own face. This does not happen with every episode and when it does occur, it usually passes quickly. But it is extremely disturbing.
Imagine going through life as a young adolescent trying to fit in but being mistakenly accused of being a substance abuser to put it nicely. I can’t tell you how many times people have assumed that I had been drinking or taking drugs during an episode. From the first time I fell asleep on the bathroom floor at school at 14 years old till now, doctors have taken blood tests to be sure nothing was in my system and nothing ever has been.
After dealing with the horrible symptoms of a KLS episode, imagine waking up, reconnecting with your world, and finding out that something happened that you thought was a dream. But you find out it actually occurred and a flood of memories come pouring into your mind. Can you imagine the horror of realizing what you thought was a dream actually occurred?
