Setting Goals or Creating Dreams is Important when Living with a Chronic Illness

It is so important to have dreams and set goals in life when living with a chronic illness. My dreams have kept me alive and my goals help me to get to where I want to go. I am very fortunate that I was able to receive a 2015 Goal Journal to review. This journal is going to help me focus and stay on target with my goals for the next eighteen months. I want to share with you 10 reasons why it’s important to set goals when living with a chronic condition! You can check out the goal planners here: All Types of Planners Store or Goal Planners Store

Setting simple goals is good to start with. When setting goals, it’s important to set simple or reachable goals in realistic time frames.Setting simple goals that are reachable will help you build your self-confidence. You will be able to set more difficult goals for yourself, the more simpler goals you reach. Starting with simple goals will make you realize you CAN achieve anything you set your mind to. Every goal achieved is a celebration when living with chronic illness.

Setting goals keep you moving forward. Life can come to a halt when living with chronic illness, so it’s important to set goals. Setting goals will help you stay motivated which will in turn help you take action towards your goals and dreams. Focus on the things you can do instead of the things you can’t.  One of my favorite quotes is: “It doesn’t matter how slow you go, just as long as you don’t stop.”

Setting goals builds your self-esteem. When setting your goals and accomplishing them, you show your inner-self that you DID achieve it and are capable of achieving more goals! You are able to see what you have done and look back on your progress. That is a huge self-esteem booster.

Setting goals will help you make good decisions. It’s easy to get off course in life and go with the crowd. Setting goals will help you stay on track and make you think about what’s important and help you to prioritize your life desires.

Setting goals gives you purpose. We all have a purpose in life! Goals help you realize what your purpose is by showing yourself and others what you value. We all have a story to tell!

Setting goals keeps you grounded. Setting goals keeps your mind focused on the tasks needed to be done. It’s helpful to have a guide to log your important desires, wants, dreams, and goals so that you can stay on track. Obtaining a goal journal may be a good idea so you can start tracking your progress. Check out the goal journals by clicking on the following link: All Types of Planners Store or Goal Planners Store

Setting goals can help you focus on the important things. Time is precious. Setting goals will help you weed out what you don’t need to focus on. Setting goals will help you spend time on the things that truly matter to you.

Setting goals can change your perspective on life. Setting goals may help change your perspective on your life. For instance, you may realize that you have strengths you didn’t even know you had before you started setting goals. Your goals may inspire you to not let your condition stop you from doing what you are able to.

Setting goals gives you hope. Setting goals makes the impossible seem POSSIBLE! Dreaming or setting goals offers hope and hope offers life.

Setting goals helps you realize you have a gift to give to this world. You are important! You have a gift to share with the world! Setting goals will help you to realize you have value to give and share with others!

When setting your goals or creating your dreams, you want to make sure your goals are SMART. Using the SMART acronym is useful in setting more effective goals. SMART goals are:

* Specific – this means that the goal needs to be clear and unambiguous.

* Measurable – a goal needs to be measurable in order to decide if progress is being made.

* Attainable – the goal needs to be realistic and achievable.

* Relevant – there has to be a good reason for achieving the goal.

* Timely – this means that it can be achieved within a timeframe.
