Your teen years are supposed to be the best of your life, full of new discoveries, fun times, and exciting challenges. But I lost a good few years between the ages of 10 and 20 because I was either asleep in bed or functioning sick due to Kleine-Levin Syndrome (KLS).

I have always said that it’s not what you go through that makes you the person you are, it’s how you react to the situation that you are dealt with that makes you the person you are. I have looked beyond my struggle and have found meaning in my life by helping others.

Now 24, my mission is to improve the quality of life for those struggling or anyone experiencing chronic illness by providing an online community to connect and engage and to offer a heart full of compassion to let others know they are important and cared for.  [Read more…]

Alanna Wong & Dr. Watson’s Kleine-Levin Syndrome (KLS) Interview

KLS

KLS

The following video is a short clip from the interview I had with Dr. Nathaniel Watson M.D., M.Sc in Seattle this past February. I am grateful to be able to speak out about Kleine-Levin Syndrome (KLS) and help those that are suffering. Thankfully, my KLS episodes have improved and are much lighter now! For a while, it was like taking 1 step forward 3 steps back every time a KLS episode hit. Now it’s like taking 3 steps forward, 1 step back when a KLS episode hits! It’s not what you go through that makes you the person you are, it’s how you react to the situation that you are dealt with that makes you the person you are. I have looked beyond my struggle and have found meaning in my life by helping others!

I am grateful for the blessings in my life, and I offer those interested the opportunity to bless someone else’s life by sending them a card in the mail on me. I enjoy helping others send a card to someone who needs to hear from them. I have spent the past six years dedicating my life to raising awareness for Kleine-Levin Syndrome (KLS) in an effort to help other sufferers by raising funds for research, engaging and connecting with the community, and facilitating the KLS Foundation website. Contact me here if you want to send a card to your loved one: http://alannawonglife.com/contact/

If you are struggling with KLS, I want you to know it does eventually get better with time.
